Wow, John Frederick really captures the beauty of those Missouri River bluffs in his water color painting. The photo Vin took at Indian Cave would have been further north of this Quarry if i’m not mistaken. Wonderful autumn foliage captured in that photo!

Folklore
I found this excellent write up on the legendary Antoine Barada, by Lawrence Barkwell. Name sake of Barada Nebraska.
“Antoine Barada “Mo shi-no pazhi”. (1807-1887): The Metis Paul Bunyan of Nebraska Antoine Barada was an American folk hero in the state of Nebraska. Contemporary accounts of his prodigious strength helped establish him as a legend in the mold of Paul Bunyan. Antoine Barada was born at St. Mary’s across the Missouri River from Omaha. He was the Metis son of Michel de Baradat and Te-gle-ha Haciendo (Laughing Buffalo) an Omaha Indian. Antoine was a man of prodigious strength and great size; he was almost seven feet tall. His father was a government interpreter. While Michel was working 200 miles above Omaha, Lakota Indians stole young Antoine from his parents. Six months later they recovered him by paying a ransom of two ponies. To avoid a repeat of this kidnapping, his parents then sent him to St. Louis to live with his aunt. He went to school there but at age nine returned to the plains with a party of Indians. He later became a guide for pioneers moving west. Antoine’s name, along with those of his siblings, can be found on the Great Nemeha Half-Breed Reservation Allottee List of 1860. In 1856 he moved to the Great Nemeha Half-Breed Tract and set up a trading post there, from which the town of Barada grew. Antoine married Marcellite Vient, a French woman from St. Louis and they settled in Richardson County just northeast of the present Falls City. The town and precinct were named Barada after Antoine. Barada was always in demand for lifting beams in barn building or lifting wagons from the mud. His strength was convincingly demonstrated at St. Louis when as a young man he became the only person to ever lift a huge stone of 1,700 pounds located at the government arsenal. He name and date of the event were inscribed on the stone for future generations. Antoine was also an excellent marksman, he was able to shoot prairie chickens on the fly from horseback and it was said that with his double-barreled shotgun he never failed to drop two quail from every covey. When he died in 1887 he was buried beside his wife in the Catholic cemetery just east of Barada, the village that bears his name. “

Shit, Gary is ahead of the curve once again! He has been wearing those carhartt bibs since he was a baby. All of a sudden they are real popular with all them cool youths and the hippie dippiest. I really kind of dig it! Nice work Gary!
Poetry
I really like Jim Harrison, he wrote that Montana western epic “Legends of the Fall”. I always get it mixed up with “A River Runs Through it” by Norman Maclean. I think the movies both have Brad Pitt? The books don’t have Brad Pitt, but the movies do……. I like Macleans book as well “Young Men and Fire”. Its about a crew of early smoke jumpers, the tragic “1949 Man Gulch” wildfire Montana's Gates of the Mountains Wilderness. Damn, these guys write some rough and tough outdoor shit boy! I really like reading that stuff, but not living it. Any hew, I have the same birthday as Jim, and first name, so here is a relatable poem by the late great Jim Harrison.
Music
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard:
Petro Dragonic Apocalypse or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation.
Hot dang, they did it again! An epic thrash metal concept album mixing climate catastrophe, dragons, witches and wizards. The first song on the album “Motor Spirit” gets right to it. Our fossil fuel dependent, industrial nightmare society seems to have become a new religion we cant escape, despite our best efforts.
“Black buckets everywhere, brimming, spewing millionaires
Rotting ancient zooplankton squashed below the megaton
Sweet juice on my lips, motorized apocalypse
See metal crunch and hear it
Highway death by motor spirit
Light the fuel
Propagate oxygen and heat
Deify motor spirit
Kiss goodbye the weak”
I can’t think of another artist who addresses the climate crisis so often, and as well with such imagination.

Literature
This was a tough read but well worth it. Reminds me of “The Monkey Wrench Gang”, but with far more complex characters and backstory’s. The book is divided into four sections, titled "roots", "trunk", "crown", and "seeds". Each section weaving together characters who in the end meet with the shared goal of protecting trees by any means necessary.
At the Movies
Holy shit this guy is crazy, I hope he can get some help. He is straight up stalking Colin Mochrie from “Whose Line it Anyways”.
Letters to the editor.
Subject: Ye Ole Red Brick Inn’s new karaoke library.
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my disappointment in the lack of Jimmy Buffet's Margarita Villa in the karaoke library of Ye Olde Red Brick Inn bed and breakfast, a song that embodies the spirit of fun and relaxation, sorely missed among the repertoire, yet I must commend the establishment for the remarkable transformation evident in the new landscaping, which adds a refreshing and delightful touch to the overall ambiance.
Sincerely,
Terry Perry
Subject: Concerns About Proximity of Smoking Section to Weekend Buffet at Falls City Pizza Hut
Dear Editor,
It's disheartening that while patrons eagerly anticipate the weekend buffet, the discomfort caused by the nearby smoking area distracts from the joy of dining. The aroma of tobacco lingers over the buffet, including the absence of the much-loved stuffed crust pizza, leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of patrons who expect a fulfilling and enjoyable meal.
I trust that the management will take these concerns seriously and take prompt actions to rectify this pressing issue.
Respectfully,
Floyd C. Banner
Subject: Jeffy's Remarkable Art Exhibition at Kwik Shop
Dear Editor,
I am thrilled to share with your readers the outstanding success of my son Jeffy's recent art exhibition at the local Kwik Shop. This remarkable event not only captivated art enthusiasts but also showcased the exceptional talent and creativity of a budding artist within our community.
Jeffy's exhibit was nothing short of a triumph. His unique display of macaroni art, an unconventional yet awe-inspiring medium, captured the hearts and attention of everyone who visited the Kwik Shop.
I encourage our community to continue supporting and appreciating local artists like Jeffy, whose passion and vision enrich our lives and bring vibrancy to our shared spaces.
Sincerely,
One very proud Momma

I was able to stop by Jeffy's art show, and picked out a really nice piece for my buddy Gary. (Kinda an art snob so I was kind of nervous.) Gave it to him at dinner the other night and he absolutely love it! Thanks Jeffy!
I think you guys are lucky. When the SHTF in the east that is when Biden finally is successful at starting WW3 over there in the Ukraine killing fields you have an entire culture that seems to be resistant to big government BS. Smoking, however in my opinion is BAD for you if you want to live longer and continue writing. 🙄
