ahhh, pirate radio. I was so happy when I caught a pirate FM station during my two years of working in Boulder, CO...

anyway, to the point. saw the open source ecology video link, went "ugh, video," but like that sort of thing enough that I immediately went to it, dug out the link to go to the actual website, bookmarked it, came back here; then noticed just a tiny bit further down the page that you are one of the few folks to actually link the text-and-pictures source instead of just ViDeO🤪

gods but I hate tech info when presented only in video form. and I totally LOVE usable tech info.

thanks.

Holy cow! I have been thinking about this as well, thank you for your input! Im really into Marshall Mcluhan's "The medium is the Massage", print media versus video, and how they work on humans. Maybe sub stack is not the place for video? It kinda takes away from the newsletter feel that I really like. What are you thoughts? Could you explain your view?

Thanks again!

I'll watch video for entertainment purposes, but have difficulty extracting and retaining technical data from that medium. video presentations of information are harder to research than text and pictures... I can copy paste terms and names from text but video I usually have to transcribe the interesting parts to get to relevant data I can absorb, reference, and use.

cartoons though, while acceptable in still picture form, are excellent as video.

well howdy b.jim, before i go into my 'resume' (as i did several kinds of shows at various times) and few different stations) i have a great idea... being the cross-pollinator personality i am; part one of g.idea; if you can, tune-in to 'tommy's holiday camp' hosted by 'arnoldo el supremo'....funny name for a brit eh? and it airs TONIGHT at 7pmPST by the way. https://kows92-5.org/kows-shows/show/tommys-holiday-camp/

part two: arnold is an old friend of mine and an actual pirate radio d.j. from back in the BBC day in the UK and has even written a book on his adventures in that era entitled 'banned by the BBC!' subtitled 'how i became a radio pirate'. anyways i can contact arnold if you listen in and think you might be interest in confabing. i'll forward him your stack here...and we'll see what happens. i'd also highly recommend going to the KOWS (sebastopol, ca) site and checking out teresa tudury's show, 'live from the double-wide'. she is also a friend, plays great music and is a HOOT.

hey big jim, i just saw that you were 'following' me? and i don't even have my own substack...just a few pithy comments here and there...albeit by bloggers that seem to be along the lines of your thought. maybe it's reinette senum's stack? idk in any case i thought i'd pop in and see 'who dis radio rulo guy'? i enthusiastically applaud your pirate radio in a wonder bread truck. beautiful! i done a bit of community radio myself here in sonoma county, ca over the years. nice to catch wind of what's goin on in your patch of the world other than the sadly similiar feel to way its going down in local government everywhere. in fact if you're not familiar with reinettesenum'sfoghornexpress.substack.com you might wanna check out her latest interview 1/11/24. wishing you warmth, berdalee

Awesome! What did your show entail? Did you play music or was it a talk show? Did you enjoy your time doing it? I am a huge fan of community radio. Lincoln Nebraska has an excellent one calld KZUM 89.3. Thinks lots of old guy blues shows in the afternoon, and younger indie music shows in the morning! Thanks for reaching out!

Jeremiah is a talented kid. I tell him often that if he applies himself the sky is the limit! Not sure he should have dropped out of high school to go on tour, but I believe in him no matter what!

As Frank Zappa said "Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST."
